Internationalisation has always been at the core of Laure Capitani’s work. She has been active for 23 years within the government agency AWEX (Wallonia Export & Investment Agency), and for the past 18 years, she has focused specifically on promoting and enhancing fashion and design from Belgium.
Convinced of the talent within Belgium’s creative industries, Laure Capitani coordinates the Wallonia-Brussels Design Mode (WBDM) department, which for the past 19 years has supported the professionalisation and international visibility of design and fashion businesses, as well as companies integrating design into their strategy. Gilles Bazelaire, 49, describes himself as a “hyperactive entrepreneur.”
He perfectly embodies creative Wallonia, part of a rising generation of young entrepreneurs who grew up in the region – in this case, Namur – and are now giving back to the territory that shaped them. Together with friends, he co-founded Dogstudio, a digital agency that has spent the past 16 years creating innovative communication solutions using digital tools. Alongside his partners, Gilles also co-founded Superbe, a company that develops interactive installations for events, museums, and festivals.
A passionate believer in possibilities, Gilles has travelled extensively, discovering the immense potential of digital technologies in other countries.
In 2010, the KIKK Festival was born – its very first edition was a success. Bridging the artistic and the economic, the festival has become a vibrant meeting space where worlds collide: a joyful mix of digital culture, 3D printing, digital art, design, investment, pixels, and nanotechnology… All presented in both French and English, through a series of uniquely engaging talks. This year, the event expects to welcome 30,000 visitors.
An advocate of new practices, alternative management models, and transdisciplinary approaches, Gilles is also involved in TRAKK – Namur’s creative hub and Fab Lab – designed to foster the emergence of creative projects in the region.
Lastly, Gilles is a regular speaker at international events and digital festivals, where he shares insights on the creative industries, third places, and the digital economy.
